Moving Guide and Tips
Moving Guide and Checklist
Moving can be one of the most stressful experiences in our lives. Between packing and organizing, finding a new home, and saying goodbye to old friends, there’s a lot to do. Whether you’re a buyer or a seller, moving can be overwhelming. Here are some helpful tips and a checklist to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Moving is a well known challenge but with proper planning, moving can be less challenging. The first step is to create a timeline. Decide on a moving date, then work backward to plan when you need to start packing and organizing. This will help you stay on track and avoid any last-minute surprises.
Packing can be one of the most time-consuming tasks when moving. Label all boxes with the contents and the room they belong to so unpacking will be easier and more organized. Another tip is to pack a box of essentials that you’ll need upon arrival, such as toiletries, a change of clothes, and important documents.
When it comes to your furniture, take measurements of your new home to make sure everything will fit. You don’t want to lug a couch up three flights of stairs only to find it won’t fit in your living room. If you’re hiring a moving company, do your research and read reviews to ensure they’re reputable.
Checklist for Moving
To make sure you don’t forget anything, here’s a checklist for moving:
- Change your address with the post office, banks, and any other important accounts
- Cancel or transfer utilities (electricity, gas, water, internet, cable)
- Transfer or cancel any subscriptions or memberships
- Update your driver’s license and car registration
- Research new healthcare providers in your new area
- Pack a box of essentials for your first night in your new home
- Label boxes with contents and room names
- Measure furniture to ensure it will fit in your new home
- Hire a reputable moving company or rent a moving truck
- Clean your old home before leaving
Whether you’re a buyer or a seller, moving can be a stressful experience. By creating a timeline, packing efficiently, and using our checklist, you can make the transition to your new home as smooth as possible. Don’t forget to take breaks and ask for help when needed. Happy moving!
